My background is in daily newspapers. Most of my experience was at The Washington Post, where I ran the Metro Copy Desk for 12 years and received the Eugene Meyer Award – the highest honor for a staff member – for raising standards.

As an editor, my strength is to go beyond the basics and untangle complex sentences, spot holes and inconsistencies, and tighten. And more: Is the premise backed up? Do the numbers add up? Is the article accurate and fair, and are the facts attributed? Could the structure be improved, or could the piece be better written while retaining the writer’s voice?

After taking early retirement from the Post in 2006, I established Kramer Editing Services and have edited projects ranging from short articles and company profiles to lengthy reports, complex analyses and book chapters. I also set up an editing infrastructure at Politico, a start-up newspaper and website.

Did I mention I do it all on deadline? Ask about overnight editing – in by 5, out by 9 (starch or no starch). Weekend service also available. No downtime to you. I bill hourly or a flat fee based on the project.
